When you or a loved one is a victim of domestic violence, packing up and leaving the violent relationship isn’t easy. In some cases, you will be trying to hide that violence that occurs in your household. You might be putting makeup on a bruised face or feigning clumsiness for a broken arm. You might also be in denial that this is happening to you. Even in a physical check up, you might be trying to defend your partner from the doctor. This is the main reason why support groups for domestic violence have been created. If it’s not to help you on the path towards healing, it’s to get you to see the truth and have support and a shoulder to lean on when you’ve decided to leave the relationship.
In the US, if you’re a victim of domestic violence and you need to turn to support groups for help, you can get the quickest help in case of an emergency when you call 911. If you’ve already been hurt, the people at 911 can still come to your rescue and help keep your life safe. If you need advice and support, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is always open for you to call. The number is 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE). If on the other hand, you need a safe place to stay, you can always call your state’s branch for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. These aren’t the only places you can get support and help from. You also have other local organizations that can help.
With support groups for domestic violence, it will be easier for you to see that you are NOT to blame for being mistreated or battered. Just like everyone else in the world, you deserve to be taken care of and treated with respect. It’s not because of you that your partner has abusive behavior. You and your children deserve to have a life of safety and happiness. You are also not alone in your struggle against domestic violence. There are many people who are willing to help you at support groups for domestic violence.
The intent of this website is to contribute to the prevention of domestic violence of women, men and children across the United States. The records contained within this database are derived from actual court documents. All records are a matter of public record.
